Mary Strickland Brewer

Mary Strickland Brewer of Toccoa, Georgia, died peacefully in her ancestral home on July 28, 2017, at the age of 93.
Mary Priscilla Strickland was born in Toccoa, Georgia, on October 21, 1923, to Gussie Glen Strickland and Ethel Agatha Putnam.  Mary grew up in Toccoa, Georgia. She graduated from Toccoa High School.
Mary married Douglas Bacon Brewer in 1942.  They were happily married for 60 years.  Doug’s military career led them to live in Chateauroux, France, from 1950 - 1953.  This period was one of the most influential and cherished in Mary’s life.  Mary and Doug also lived in Moses Lake, Washington, for 14 years.  Following Moses Lake, they spent two years on Guam, US Territory, followed a year in both Kansas City, Missouri, and Dayton, Ohio.  Mary and Doug lived in Memphis, Tennessee from 1971 - 1997.  They finally returned to Toccoa, Georgia, allowing a most welcome reunion with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter Nancy Brewer Ancitano (Samuel) of Toccoa and her son Douglas Bacon Brewer, Jr., of Tampa, Florida.  Mary’s only grandchild is Rebecca Fumia Patel (Noshir Patel) of Johns Creek, Georgia.   Mary is the proud great-grandmother to Brewer Jackson Patel, Katherine “Kate” Virginia Patel, and Ellis Samuel Patel of Johns Creek, Georgia.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Bacon Brewer, her parents Glen and Ethel, her sister Dorothy Strickland Wheeler, and her niece - Dorothy’s only daughter - Victoria Brown.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Clary Center in Toccoa where Mary lived for the past five years.  In addition, the Pruitt Health Hospice professionals provided an extraordinary level of care and attention to Mary and our family during her final week.  Most importantly, the Pruitt Health Home-Care Nurses allowed Mary to spend her final days at her home under the loving care of her daughter and granddaughter, Nancy Ancitano and Rebecca Patel.
The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 A.M. til service time.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, 11 O’clock A.M in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend David Ritcey officiating. Inurnment will be held later in the afternoon at Stephens Memorial Gardens for immediate family members.

Beth Taylor

Hello Nancy,
My name is Beth Taylor and my father Bill Collier is your Mothers cousin. I had the privilege of visiting your mom on several occasions when I would bring my Dad to visit her. He enjoyed keeping in touch with her on the phone and several visits to her when we had the opportunity. He always says there's not many of them left anymore! Your Mom was lovely and I will be praying for your family as you move through this time of mourning. Gods love be with you all.

Just loved your mom! She was such a hoot just like her daughter and my friend Nancy! I remember having so much fun with her when she would come to visit Nancy in Virginia Beach! She loved her Champagne! Always had her make up on and nails polished..I know her family will miss her terribly. I know she lived a long life but will be missed that much more. Lots of love..
